My usual morning routine includes reading the news both locally on the Journal Star web and then heading over to CNN. This morning I came across an article that caught my eye: "What is Virginity Worth Today?"
Go ahead take a few minutes to read this article. Granted it's written/based on a 22 year-old woman I still think it has value as a discussion topic - especially with our teens.
So, are you a teen checking out this article: then comment on this post and let me know what your take on this is...what is virginity worth today? How do you feel about this? How do your peers feel?
Are you a parent: what is your first reaction? how do you plan to discuss (or continue to discuss) this and other areas of sexuality with your child?
Lastly, other adults: just tell me what you think?

You know, I think it depends on who you ask and how strong their convictions are-where they are in their faith journey.
I hear the statistic has changed since I graduated college-the average teenager has sex by the age of 14 now. When I think back to those years, it wasn't even on my radar-oh sure, girls were, but that was just dating-holding hands, maybe a kiss on the cheek, and cuddling while watching a movie.
Today...is a different time with different values. I think there's more pressure out there than before, but then again, I did get cheated on a number of times because I wouldn't have sex too. Man, what was I thinking huh?
How many youth today would turn it down? Guy or Girl???
After reading the article...all I have to say is wow! And I do recall females in college who did something similar-however, I don't think it was to sell their virginity.
I think the 19 year old male is right-it's just been a gradual decline...of course that's in comparison to our Christian values.
So again, it does depend on who you ask and where there convictions are because for the young lady who's selling her innocence, it's 'okay'.
I wonder how many other things we find are 'okay' in today's world. Porn, under-aged drinking, heavy petting, taking a few bucks from dad's wallet when he's not looking...
While I'm not shocked, I do wonder what it says about our culture-why are we so desensitized to things that should matter. Where is the value in life?
my Holocaust lit teacher sort of talked about desensitization(Mr. Gudgel) and i dont see why movies such as Saw or Hostel have contributed to our decline in the value of life... and then that makes me think of a song by Relient K, This Week the Trend: "and i just wanna get mugged at knife point/ to get cut enough to wake me up/ cuz i know that i dont wanna die/ sittin around watchin my life go by"
the next few lines are also good.. but ya.. it seems we need something 'big' enough to shock us out of our complacency and actually get up and do something.. idk maybe thats just me.
